People are often concerned about their weight because fashion trends and celebrities' physical appearances influence popular body-image ideals—but these ideals do not necessarily represent healthy weight ranges.
Since people usually increase their body fat when they gain weight, overweight often leads to health risks. However, not all weight gain represents excessive fat. Weight gain in bodybuilders, for example, is due to increases in muscle that is part of the body’s lean mass, and there is no evidence that increased lean body mass is unhealthful. Most people have heard of dietitians as experts who tell them how to lose weight and what to ‘not eat’! Many people visit dietitians as a last-ditch effort in their fight against the mighty flab. A dietitian is much more than that. He or she is a diet expert who can give you the lowdown on the food you eat and its influence on your body. Dietitians have become more and more significant today because most people have forgotten the simple art of healthy eating. Since there is an increasing inclination to eat food straight out of a can or a wrapper, many of us don’t have a clue about what they are putting into their stomachs.

Keeping track of your weight takes less than a minute per day. Once your logbook is started, making the entries in it will quickly become part of your daily routine to the extent you hardly think about it any more. Weight records are most useful if you record your weight every day, at the same time of day, under the same circumstances. The best time to weigh yourself is right after you awake for the day. Since you won't have eaten since going to sleep, your body will tend to have its most consistent weight at that time. Always weigh yourself dressed the same way. The easiest way to get consistent results is to weigh in stark naked.

As we age, our bodies lose muscle tissue and our metabolism slows down. Exercise is the best way to get physically fit and lose weight. Starting an exercise regimen at any age is extremely beneficial and can add years to your life.Working out takes discipline and should not be painful. "No pain, no gain" is just a myth and is not good advice to follow. Exercise should make you feel healthy and fit, not looking for the ibuprofen and ice packs. Experts advise that 20 to 30 minutes of aerobic activity at least three times a week is beneficial for both men and women. Select the best plan that is favorable to your lifestyle, whether it is at home or a fitness club. Opt for a form of exercise you will enjoy the most and start out slowly, increasing your activity and work out-time gradually. Consider adding basic weight training to build muscles, burn calories and control body fat.
